Turkey Vultures: Did You Know?

Turkey vultures at an Aquarium may seem out of place at first, but they are an extremely important part of our coastal ecosystem. Vultures are scavengers. Scavengers don’t prey on living animals like eagles or other predators do, instead, they eat animals that have already died. Their specialized digestive and immune systems allow them to digest rotting meat and even animals who died of a disease without getting sick themselves! That’s amazing!

They protect the whole ecosystem by keeping it clean and free of disease!
